Synopsis:

Rayna and Deacon desperately try to reunite with Maddie and avoid court; Juliette's success stokes Layla's jealousy; Luke Wheeler tries to jump-start Will Lexington's career.

Rayna and Deacon fight to regain the trust of a determined Maddie as she seeks independence, but their efforts are undermined by someone they thought was an ally. Scarlett and Gunnar disagree on the history of their musical partnership during a press interview. Luke tries to do the right thing for an artist he admires, but it ends up backfiring. Country music star Kelsea Ballerini performs “Peter Pan” in a guest appearance as herself.

Juliette gets nominated for an Oscar for her performance in Shenandoah Girl. It's the day of the emancipation hearing, and both sides gives their case. Juliette finds about Avery spending the night with Layla. Avery wants to try at a relationship with Layla. At the hearing Maddie's lawyers spills Deacon's violent past whenever he got intoxicated. She uses this to show concern for Maddie's safety. All of this came from Frankie who was Deacon's AA sponsor. He told Cash who then told the lawyer. Deacon goes to confront Frankie out behind the bar but things take a turn when Frankie punches Deacon. The two end up getting in a brawl which leaves Frankie all bloody, and as the people from inside comes to see what's going on Frankie accuses Deacon of trying to kill him. Deacon ends up in jail, and Rayna tells him that Frankie and Cash put out an restraining order against them. This was the final straw and Maddie was rewarded with the emancipation. Juliette confesses to Layla about the night Jeff died while saving her, Layla says that nothing has changed between them. Luke goes on a conservative channel to talk with anchor Cynthia Davis to defend Will but the feed get's dropped. While at home Will hears noises and walks out to see that his truck was vandalized with homophobic slurs.
