Sadie is tormented by her stalker ex-husband and brings her expensive recording session with Avery to a standstill, jeopardizing his job. And Deacon’s secrecy over his illness causes him to push Maddie away.

(Recap From ABC)
Rayna (Connie Britton) is none too pleased when she discovers that Teddy (Eric Close) and Jeff Fordham (Olive Hudson) have teamed up to sign Maddie (Lennon Stella) to Edgehill—and she’s prepared to battle both men in order to protect her daughter.

When she confronts Teddy and he defends his surreptitious actions, she informs him that her lawyers are prepared to file an emergency injunction stripping him of his parental rights. Deacon (Charles Esten), after all, is Maddie’s biological father.

Rayna’s bold move is enough to cause Teddy to back off and let her handle a scheduled meeting between Maddie and Edgehill’s board of directors. When Rayna informs the chairman of the board that Jeff blackmailed Teddy into signing the contract, and that an underage Layla Grant (Aubrey Peeples) overdosed and almost drowned in the music exec’s pool, she’s able to have the contract nullified—and Jeff fired!

Meanwhile, Scarlett (Clare Bowen) tries to keep Deacon’s spirits up about his liver cancer diagnosis. But when he does some Internet research and discovers he may only have six months to live, he’s in no mood for Scarlett’s pep talks—or the immune-boosting thistle-and-bee-pollen concoctions that she tries to give him. Instead, he decides to draw up a will he’s found online. It’s not until Scarlett forces him to talk to Maddie and that the father and daughter meet up for a guitar lesson that Deacon begins to change his gloomy outlook about his situation.

Elsewhere, Gunnar (Sam Palladio) and Luke (Will Chase) meet up for a song-writing session, but end up getting drunk because they’re both down in the dumps about their love lives. Luke convinces Gunnar and Will (Chris Carmack) to embark on a boy’s night out—during the day—to escape their woes. Each man pairs off with a woman, but Will leaves the festivities before things can escalate between him and his date. When Luke calls him out on ditching boys’ night the next morning, Will tells him that he’s not the playboy the media has made him out to be. Luke reveals that he’s also more of a sensitive type than a bad boy, and goes on to write a heartfelt song about his heartache with Gunnar. “It’s gonna be a while before I get over her,” he tells Gunnar, referring to Rayna.
